RA asked:

I am 42 years old and want to retire in 5 years to a quiet life with my wife. We are looking at a place in the Pakistani mountains and would like to convert it into a luxury family run guest house that will be open 6 to 7 months a year (it is snowed-in in the other months). The idea is to earn enough in those months and then move back to our house in the city, relax, travel etc. in the off months. Good idea? What does it take? What can we expect?
OK, reality in Pakistani mountains is running hot water and radiator heating is a luxury! We plan to have both. Bathrooms are small so tubs may not be possible, but they will all be en suite. Internet access, most definitely. Not really a bed and breakfast, but a bed/breakfast/lunch and dinner. We plan to serve good local and continental cuisine, not a la carte, but fixed menus per day. We also would like to host small corporate events such as a management retreat or a brainstorming session. We will set up a board room for that with multimedia projector, computer and other tools. Also themes such as 40th/50th birthday parties etc. We are looking at about 8 rooms, a dining area, an upper storey deck with a view, a lounge, cable/satellite TV, good music (not loud) in house on Bose systems, good company (namely us!).
