In 1982 Neil Postman claimed that we are losing our stage of childhood by the lives we are constructing for our children. For example, many children need appointment books to track daily/weekly activities they are involved in. Also, tv, cable, and internet has exposed children to ‘adult’ topics and forced them into the adult world. In the media, children are portrayed as little adults, and in many cases portrayed as smarter that adults (I call it the “the Home alone” phenomenon). As far as popular culture, children have designer cloths, equipment, accessories, and luxury items, etc.
